Honest, vulnerable, inspiring, insightful and educational are words used to describe my new book, From Why to Fly.
From Why to Fly is a book filled with personal stories and advice on mental health, disability, LGBTQ+ and more.
It is a book for those who struggle with these issues and those who know people who do.
I am a 25-year-old from St. Catharines, Ontario. I have anxiety and mild depression, as well as a physical disability. I also identify as bisexual.
I started writing about my personal experiences in 2014 on my blog, jessvictoria.com/blog (formerly stayingstrong247.com). About a year and a half ago, I decided to take the lessons I’ve learned during the first quarter-century of my life and put them all into one book.
Demi Lovato, a singer who is open about her own mental health issues, inspires me to do what I do. She helped me realize how much words can help other people. Since then, I’ve always been open and honest about my story, and putting everything a book is just another way to get it out there.
My goal for the book is to reach more and more people and help them. To me, it doesn’t matter how many I sell, as long as it has an impact on people.
I have already received tons of positive messages about how much the book has helped and inspired them already. I have also had friends and family say that they feel like they know me better now, which was another goal of mine.
